From Suffering To Hope
October 22, 2017
Series: LETTERS – Jesus365
Speaker: Dr. Nijay Gupta
Welcome to the Epistles! We are in the final stretch in our Jesus 365 study. Ten weeks to go until we conclude our 52 week study of Jesus through the entire Bible. If you missed anything, check back to our Jesus365.net website. Everything about this this, all the studies, devotionals, and sermons are on this site.
This Sunday we connect once again to the world of academia to the local church. It is my pleasure to bring to the VCC pulpit for the first time: Dr. Nijay Gupta, professor of New Testament Studies at Portland Seminary. Dr. Gupta has written three books: Worship That Makes Sense to Paul (Walter de Gruyter, 2010), Prepare, Succeed, Advance: A Guidebook for Getting a PhD in Biblical Studies and Beyond (Wipf & Stock, 2011), and Colossians (Smyth & Helwys, 2013). He has also written numerous academic articles for journals such as Journal for the Study of the New Testament and The Catholic Biblical Quarterly.
He gets most excited about studying the four “E”s: Exegesis, Egalitarianism, Ecumenism, and Ethics (www.georgefox.edu/seminary/faculty/bio/nijay-gupta.html). He has his PhD in the New Testament from University of Durham and MDiv from Gordon-Convwell Theological Seminary, my Alma Mater. He blogs on religion and biblical studies at his personal blog, www.cruxsolablog.com, as well as on ministry matters and spirituality as part of the writing team of Missio Alliance, www.missioalliance.org/blog. Dr. Gupta is currently working on a number of writing projects including a pastoral theology of Paul in light of the Thessalonian correspondence.
